8 Best Ice Cream Flavors At Walt Disney World

Who doesn’t love ice cream?  Walt Disney World has plenty of opportunities for you to indulge in your favorite flavor of soft-serve or hard ice cream, or to branch out and try some fantastic ice cream cousins, like sorbet and gelato.  While there simply isn’t enough room to list all of our favorites, here are a few flavors that you really should try on your next Walt Disney World vacation.

1. Mint Chocolate Chip

One of our absolute favorite ice cream shops in all of Walt Disney World is Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop at Disney Springs.  There’s no wrong choice with any of the heavenly concoctions here!  If you love dark chocolate and you’re a fan of mint, the Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream is a must!  The combination of real Ghirardelli chocolate pieces and mint ice cream is divine.  The great thing is that you can choose any ice cream flavor to put in a sundae or shake, so the possibilities are endless!

2. Ooey Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream

We have yet to meet an ice cream flavor we don’t like at Ample Hills Creamery at Disney’s BoardWalk.  But our ultimate favorite (which is also a staff favorite!) here is the Ooey Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream.  The base is vanilla ice cream with cream cheese, which gives it the perfect creamy texture.  Yummy butter cake bits are thrown in to add chewy, heavenly perfection!

3. Coco-white Chocolate Ice Cream

L’Artisan des Glaces, in the France pavilion of Walt Disney World’s Epcot, is another place where you simply can’t go wrong.  Unique and delicious ice cream flavors abound here!  It’s hard for us to choose a favorite, in fact.  But the Coco-white Chocolate Ice Cream wins points both for its originality (we’ve never found an ice cream flavor that combines coconut and white chocolate before) and for pure deliciousness!

4. Caramel-Ginger Ice Cream

When you’re in Epcot (presumably to sample the amazing flavors at L’Artisan des Glaces?), make sure you stop at the Lotus Blossom Café in the Chinese pavilion.  It’s a quick service restaurant, so you can grab your ice cream as a snack rather than as part of a meal, to save room for snacking around the World Showcase!  It’s a great dessert for guests who love ginger, but who also appreciate a helping of rich caramel.

5. Pistachio Gelato

For those with a serious sweet tooth, look no further than Vivoli il Gelato in Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs.  While you’ll find gelato, not ice cream, at this location, one taste will show you why some people prefer gelato to ice cream!  It’ll be hard narrowing down your options, which is why it’s great that you can choose several flavors to put in one cup!  Try the Pistachio Gelato, which has a delightfully nutty flavor and is sweetened to perfection.

6. Peanut Butter & Jelly Milk Shake

Ok, it’s not really a flavor of ice cream, but we love the combination of peanut butter and jelly and delicious vanilla ice cream, so this milkshake from the 50’s Prime Time Café at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios makes our list.  If you’re a fan of gooey peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and creamy vanilla ice cream, it should make yours, too!

7. Mango Sorbet

If you’re looking for something light that also delivers on taste, Walt Disney World’s No-Sugar-Added Mango Sorbet is for you.  It has a refreshing taste, rather than the sweeter taste of ice cream, and its dairy-free and no-sugar-added status makes it a winner for vegans and those restricting their sugar intake.  We’ve found this dessert at a variety of places throughout the parks over the years, including Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café and Cinderella’s Royal Table.

8. Pineapple and Vanilla Swirled Dole Whip

We couldn’t list the best ice cream flavors in Walt Disney World without including the Dole Whip, one of the most popular treats on property.  Our favorite flavor of Dole Whip is the pineapple swirled with soft vanilla.  It creates the perfect, creamiest blend of sweet pineapple goodness, and it’s available at the Polynesian Resort and at Aloha Isle in the Magic Kingdom.

About Jason Dick

Jason is a Disney addict. Walt Disney World trips are an annual occurrence that his partner has had to come to terms with. In between Disney trips, he spends his time running the theatre company he started in 2007. As Artistic Director, he picks musicals to bring to his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario Canada that have never been produced in the area. Traveling is definitely a passion and in addition to his trips to the happiest place on earth, he and his partner also travel the world, most recently to India and Nepal. A carnivore by nature, Jason loves the incredible amount of steakhouses Walt Disney World has to offer - they are always at the top of his list for each and every visit.
