If you’re looking for a different sort of Disney vacation, then Disney Cruise Lines is for you.  You’ll be fully immersed in the wonderful worlds of Disney, while sailing the seas, enjoying unparalleled service and amenities on board, and embarking on fun adventures in beautiful ports of call.  Here are just a few of our favorite things about Disney Cruise Lines (but there are many, many more)!

10. AquaDuck

Warning: you’ll be forever spoiled for waterslides when you try Disney Cruise Line’s AquaDuck!  It’s a huge, transparent, elevated waterslide that begins on the ship, and then takes you careening off the ship and out over the water, so you have fantastic views of the ship – and the ocean below you!  Pro tip: the AquaDuck is always busy, so if there are any port excursions you’re not crazy about, try staying onboard and use the waterslide and pools then, when there are fewer people on the ship.

9. Service

We associate Disney with superior service, so it makes sense that service on board Disney Cruise Line is unsurpassed.  You may have been on other cruises before, but trust us, once you try a Disney cruise, you’ll never go back!  Disney Cruise Line staff are amazingly attentive, professional, and very, very good at what they do.  You’ll feel completely pampered every second you’re onboard.

8. Movie Theatre

One of our favorite discoveries on our Disney cruise was that the ship has a fully functional movie theatre, where guests can screen brand new Disney releases (while eating popcorn and other movie snacks, of course!!).  We were lucky enough to watch Big Hero 6 onboard, before anyone back home had seen it!

7. Fireworks

Probably not surprisingly, the fireworks on board a Disney cruise are nothing short of spectacular.  Disney sure knows how to do fireworks, and seeing them explode while you’re sailing across the ocean is a truly magical experience.  Rumor has it that Disney Cruise Line is the only cruise line allowed to set off fireworks, so you won’t enjoy this perk with any other cruise ship.

6. Pirate Night

We’ll admit it – when we found out there was a themed Pirate Night on our cruise, we were ecstatic!  Kids and adults alike are encouraged to bring pirate costumes to wear, and a variety of pirate activities are held all day.  You can pose for fantastic pirate shots with professional backgrounds and photographers.  Then watch as Captain Jack Sparrow tries to save the ship from pirates in a fun-tastic theatrical display.

5. Entertainment

The entertainment on board a Disney cruise is second to none.  Whether you’re watching your favorite villains in a stage show, or enjoying your favorite Frozen tunes in a musical version of the movie, you’ll be enthralled!  Disney Cruise Line shows may even make you forget you’re on a ship!

4. Characters

Younger guests in particular love all the Disney characters that you can meet throughout your Disney cruise.  You can pose for photographs with your favorites, and get their autographs.  You’ll encounter Mickey and Minnie in the lobby as soon as you board, you’ll meet princesses at the Princess Gathering, and you’ll see a host of other characters at character breakfasts and dance parties.  So get your camera and autograph book ready!

3. Special Activities

We love the range of special onboard activities (all included in your cruise cost) available on a Disney cruise.  The gingerbread house making activity was a hit with our party, as we sailed during the holidays.  But there’s truly something for everyone (and usually more than one something – we found ourselves torn between activities occurring simultaneously!) – consult the schedule you’ll get upon boarding.

2. Rotational Dining

Disney Cruise Lines use rotational dining, which means that each night for dinner, you rotate through the whimsically-themed restaurants, so you have a chance to experience each.  Your servers, and your fellow diners, move with you.  This means you not only have a chance to make friends and dine with them each evening, but your servers get to know your preferences, so you don’t have to explain any dietary restrictions over and over again to new servers.

1. Oceaneer Club

Disney’s Oceaneer Club is a specially-designed children’s activity center, where kids 3-12 can spend hours of fun onboard.  Your little ones will find interactive activities, dress-up stations, playgrounds, movies, storytelling, toys, arts and crafts, and games – all Disney-themed, of course!  Youth counselors are on hand, so adults can enjoy their own vacation-within-a-vacation away from the kids.

About Jason Dick

Jason is a Disney addict. Walt Disney World trips are an annual occurrence that his partner has had to come to terms with. In between Disney trips, he spends his time running the theatre company he started in 2007. As Artistic Director, he picks musicals to bring to his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario Canada that have never been produced in the area. Traveling is definitely a passion and in addition to his trips to the happiest place on earth, he and his partner also travel the world, most recently to India and Nepal. A carnivore by nature, Jason loves the incredible amount of steakhouses Walt Disney World has to offer - they are always at the top of his list for each and every visit.
